Accreditations and conformity assessment bodies

The subject area “Water” includes all tests of water matrices, here from heavily polluted waste water to fully desalinated water.

Accreditations are possible for testing laboratories in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 (legally unregulated area, specialist module for water and in accordance with 42nd BImSchV), for inspection bodies in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 (legally unregulated area and in accordance with 42nd BImSchV), and for proficiency testing providers in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043 and reference material producers in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17034.

The laboratory tests are carried out mainly in accordance with the standards of the “German standard methods for the examination of water, waste water and sludge”.

Current areas of focus include accreditations of testing laboratories and inspection bodies in accordance with 42nd BImSchV (Federal Immission Control Ordinance).

Accreditations that take account of the specialist module for water represent the basis for subsequent notification of testing laboratories by the competent German state authorities in the legally regulated area. Testing and inspection in accordance with 42nd BImSchV may only be carried out by conformity assessment bodies accredited for this purpose.

Tests not subject to accreditation in this area include the testing of drinking water in accordance with the German Drinking Water Ordinance, dialysis water and water from ventilation systems for patient care, water for pharmaceutical purposes, and mineral, bottled and drinking water (animal feed).

Benefits of accreditation

With its accreditation, DAkkS confirms fulfilment of the normative requirements with regard to conformity assessment activities to the conformity assessment bodies, and thus their technical competence.
