Automotive Engineering Sector Committee at a glance

The Sector Committee on Automotive Engineering advises DAkkS on the accreditation of testing laboratories and inspection bodies for the testing of vehicles and their components for their conformity with national and international rules and regulations. A key component is its cooperation with KBA, the Federal Motor Transport Authority, which can nominate conformity assessment bodies for type approval on the basis of accreditation by DAkkS.

Its second major area of activity is the obligation of German monitoring organisations to acquire accreditation in accordance with the requirements of Annex VIIIb of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulation (StVZO), including bodies which carry out so-called “provided tests” (for example exhaust emission tests) as part of general inspections of vehicles. This includes the accreditation of providers of relevant calibration services.

The DAkkS Sector Committee on Automotive Engineering is made up of expert representatives of KBA, the Federal Motor Transport Authority, the highest approval authorities of the federal states in accordance with StVZO, the Road Traffic Licensing Regulation, monitoring organisations, testing laboratories and inspection bodies, VdTÜV, the Association of Technical Inspection Agencies, and DAkkS technical assessors. This ensures a good balance between representatives of interested parties and conformity assessment experts.
