World Accreditation Day 2026: Expertise that builds trust

The motto of World Accreditation Day 2026, “Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation”, highlights how accreditation builds trust in new technologies, supports digital transformation, promotes sustainability goals and facilitates global trade. This is made possible above all by the people behind accreditation: the assessors.

Accreditation builds trust in the expertise of conformity assessment bodies, forming an essential foundation for safety, quality, innovation and sustainable development. Accreditation ensures that business, politics and society can rely on test results, whether it concerns new technologies, digital transformation processes or the implementation of sustainability goals.

Assessors as the driving force behind accreditation

To mark this year's World Accreditation Day, DAkkS would like to pay special tribute to the “Power of Accreditation”: the people behind accreditation. DAkkS employs over 350 permanent staff, many of whom carry out assessments themselves. However, this would not be possible without the support of more than 1,100 external assessors, including technical experts from public and private organisations, who also contribute to the accreditation process.

Whether internal or external, assessors evaluate the technical competence of conformity assessment bodies and ensure that all requirements are reliably met. Their work is essential for accreditation decisions and the technical recognition of these bodies.

“The expertise of our assessors is the cornerstone of the German accreditation system. Through their competence, independence and dedication, they build trust in the results of accreditation,” explains Barbara Pflugbeil, Head of the Assessor Management at DAkkS.

New assessors wanted: Take on responsibility, ensure quality

The requirements placed on conformity assessment bodies are constantly evolving. New technologies, regulatory requirements and societal transformations call for specialist expertise. DAkkS is therefore always looking for qualified assessors and technical experts from a range of specialist fields.

These complex assessment tasks require proven expertise, several years of practical professional experience in the relevant field and an in-depth understanding of quality management. Assessors working on behalf of DAkkS may be deployed both domestically and, if desired, worldwide. Another prerequisite for appointment is successfully completing a fee-based basic training course provided by DAkkS in accordance with the applicable accreditation standard. Following this, annual compulsory further training is required.

Background

The annual World Accreditation Day held on 9 June serves to highlight the role of accreditation in the safety and quality of products and services, and in consumer protection and international trade. The campaign day was launched on a joint basis by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). Following their merger, the campaign day is now being continued by the newly established Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI).
