There is new hope for an agreement on GLOBAC based on the proposed amendments
The German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) has developed specific proposals to remove obstacles under EU law and has forwarded these to ILAC and IAF. The aim of the upcoming negotiations is to reach a mutually acceptable solution that will enable DAkkS to join the international accreditation organisation GLOBAC in full compliance with EU law.
The starting point was the German Accreditation Advisory Board's decision not to recommend accession at this time, due to legal and practical concerns. On the sidelines of an ISO CASCO meeting on 10 April 2025, DAkkS secured the opportunity to develop specific proposals for changes in order to achieve a solution for the desired GLOBAC accession in compliance with EU law.
As agreed, DAkkS has now drawn up these proposals and submitted them to ILAC and IAF.

New hope that a global accreditation agreement will be reached
The proposals developed on behalf of DAkkS are intended to enable all member countries to continue operating their existing accreditation systems without modification, even after joining GLOBAC. This also includes European accreditation bodies that are subject to specific legal obligations. An accompanying legal opinion from Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences substantiates the need for these changes.

DAkkS is confident that its proposals will pave the way for a viable compromise, enabling accession to GLOBAL in accordance with EU law. In addition, DAkkS advocates a multi-stakeholder dialogue under the auspices of UNIDO in order to achieve a broad and stable consensus.
