Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle establishes new Expert Council

With the newly established Expert Council, Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) is moving away from the former fixed structures of its sector committees and towards organising the exchange of technical information with experts from interested groups in a more flexible and future-oriented way of working. The members of the former sector committees will continue to be involved in the new body, which will also be supplemented with newly appointed experts.

In future, the members of the Expert Council will be assigned to 13 thematic working areas of accreditation. Drawing on the breadth of personnel and technical expertise available in this pool of experts, the DAkkS technical units will independently set up working groups to discuss specific projects and technical questions at the level of Level 4 and 5 standards (see Table 1, EA 1/06). The working groups convened will therefore be variable in terms of their composition and subject matter, and will both support the development of DAkkS rules at the relevant levels and provide assistance to assessors with the uniform interpretation of standards.

“The new structure and work practices of the new Expert Council are highly flexible, ensuring that the technical units at DAkkS have systematic access to the valuable expertise of its appointed members. The new Expert Council also improves the provision of equal representation to the various interested groups, which is necessary to ensure the impartiality of DAkkS, allowing future-oriented topics such as digitisation to be reflected on a sector-specific basis,” says DAkkS Chief Executive Officer Dr Stephan Finke, discussing the new committee structure.

In addition, DAkkS will bring together the designated experts in a field of activity at a separate annual event format. These meetings will serve both to facilitate interdisciplinary exchange on proposed topics and to provide information on current developments.
