DAkkS starts accreditation process under the Cyber Resilience Act
Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) is allowing conformity assessment bodies (CABs) to apply for accreditation under the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), even before the implementation act is published. Accreditation is a necessary prerequisite for notification under this legislation and is carried out in close consultation with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). To this end, DAkkS is renewing its cooperation with BSI.
Early submission of applications is possible
Even before a German implementing act has been published, CABs may submit an application to DAkkS for DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 (Module B) or DIN EN ISO/IEC 17021-1 (Module H).
In Module B, CABs acts as a certification body for EU type examination. The focus here is on the assessment and certification of the product on the basis of technical documentation and type examinations.
In Module H, CABs acts as a certification body for management systems (quality assurance, development and manufacturing). For Module H, BSI provides an official programme that does not require any further programme review.
Before applying for accreditation, it is essential to attend an information session with BSI. During this session, the scope of the accreditation will be agreed.
Close cooperation between DAkkS and BSI
Accreditation is carried out on the basis of an updated administrative agreement between DAkkS and BSI. In doing so, both institutions draw on the existing cooperation model set out in the European Cybersecurity Act.
Background: Cyber Resilience Act
The Cyber Resilience Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/2847) is the first European regulation to set out minimum cybersecurity requirements for all connected products available on the EU market. Its aim is to enhance cybersecurity within the European Union and better protect consumers and businesses from cyber risks. For certain product categories, conformity assessment by notified bodies is required. Accreditation by DAkkS is an essential prerequisite for this. The new regulations apply in all EU Member States and are being implemented in stages.
