DAkkS promotes dialogue within its Expert Council
On 8 June, the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) welcomed the members of its Expert Council to its annual virtual meeting. The agenda focused on current developments in the accreditation system and on cross-sector discussions of topics relevant to the further development of accreditation practice.
Professional input for the further development of accreditation
„The quality and acceptance of accreditation depend on professional dialogue. The Expert Council brings together different perspectives from interested parties and provides valuable input for the further development of the accreditation system. Continuous dialogue with experts helps us identify practical needs at an early stage and further develop accreditation procedures in a transparent, comprehensible and forward-looking manner” says Dr. Torben Frank, Chief Executive Officer of DAkkS.
During the annual meeting, DAkkS provided information on current developments and challenges within the accreditation system, upcoming revisions of standards and regulatory requirements. The agenda also included the peer evaluation of DAkkS by the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA), which is scheduled for later this year. As a national accreditation body, DAkkS must regularly demonstrate through peer evaluation that it meets the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 765/2008 and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17011. This is prerequisite for the international recognition of its accreditations.
Topic-specific breakout sessions provided a forum for participants to share practical experience, discuss current issues and engage directly with the standards specialists from the Competence Centre „Standards and Regulatory Affairs | Committee Coordination”.
Expert Council as a flexible advisory body
The Expert Council was established in 2023 as part of the reorganisation of the DAkkS committee structure. Its members contribute their expertise independently and solely on the basis of technical considerations.
The Expert Council helps DAkkS identify emerging technical developments and incorporate practical perspectives into the development of rules and procedures. Topic-specific working groups are established where required to discuss specific issues and advise DAkkS specialist departments on the interpretation of technical requirements.
By involving representatives from different interested parties, DAkkS ensures that a broad range of technical perspectives contribute to the further development of the accreditation system. The composition of the working groups is flexible and tailored to the specific topic being addressed.
