Digital event with a focus on accreditation and conformity assessment

The third workshop in a five-part series of events takes place on 4 June 2021, organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Mexican Secretariat of Economy (SE). With its participation in the form of a presentation and panel discussion at the event, DAkkS is supporting the exchange of experience and perspectives between stakeholders in the German and Mexican quality infrastructure system. The goal is to develop a common understanding of the QI system in both countries.

Judgment of the European Court of Justice

DAkkS Chief Executive Officer Stephan Finke: “Good news for the European accreditation system”

The ECJ has provided legal clarity for the activities of accreditation bodies from so-called third countries in European countries. With its ruling of 6 May 2021, the ECJ classifies this accreditation activity as unlawful and prohibits it in Europe as a matter of principle.

EA-2/17 implementation

DAkkS examines need for conversion

Following the revision of the document EA-2/17 of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA), Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) has withdrawn Rule 71 SD 0 022. The German translation of the EA document, which defines requirements for accreditation for notification purposes, replaces the previous rule.

Relaunch DAkkS-Website

New website of the German Accreditation Body is online

Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) has completely revamped its website at www.dakks.de. With the relaunch, Germany’s national accreditation body is improving the ability of users of the website to find relevant information quickly and easily. In addition to a modern, graphic web design and a broadening of the range of information on offer, the development work also focused on optimising the site’s structure and navigation.

Traceability of measurement results

In the area of laboratory medicine

DAkkS asks all calibration laboratories working in the area of laboratory medicine to submit an application for an amendment to their accreditation. The background to this is the new harmonised edition of the standard EN ISO 15195:2019 “Requirements for the competence of calibration laboratories using reference measurement procedures (ISO 15195:2018); German version EN ISO 15195:2019” published in the Official Journal of the EU at the end of last year.

Extensions to scope

In the course of reassessments and surveillance

Conformity assessment bodies (CABs) wishing to change their accreditation and to coordinate this change with planned surveillance or a reassessment should apply as early as possible. Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) advises CABs that applications must be submitted at least three months before the planned assessment date.

Harmonisation status

Transition of laboratory standard ISO/IEC 17025

The European Commission has extended the harmonisation status of the laboratory standard EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. Accreditations that are based on this older version of the international standard and are not converted to the new version of the standard on schedule will now not lose their validity until 1 July 2021, as opposed to the earlier date of 1 January 2021.

Assessment despite corona pandemic

Part of the extension process

DAkkS is responding to the continuing restrictions on contact and travel and is extending the use of remote assessments. Whereas remote assessments were previously intended only as a replacement for necessary surveillance assessments and reassessments during the period of restrictions caused by the corona pandemic, they can now also be used under certain circumstances for the processing of applications for extension.

Given the spread of the coronavirus and taking into account the recommendations of the German Federal Government, the Robert Koch Institute and other competent authorities, the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) has taken measures to protect employees, assessors and clients. DAkkS will continue to fulfil its authoritative task and is asking its clients for understanding for the changes the adopted measures will bring in relation to our procedures.
