Dynamic development in national and international markets

Due to the dynamic development in national and international markets, there has been a remarkable demand in the past few years for specific management systems based on ISO / IEC 17021-1: 2015. With its ISO 37001: 2016 (management system for the prevention of corruption) and ISO 55001: 2014 (management system for the asset industry), DAkkS has evaluated two certifiable standards in this area and included both of them into its accreditation portfolio.

Twinning project in Azerbaijan officially launched

Kick-off meeting in Baku

A kick-off meeting held in Baku in September saw the official launch of a Twinning project between the European Union and the Azerbaijani Accreditation Centre (AZAC). Over the next two years and under the leadership of the German accreditation body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS), AZAC will be modernised and reoriented on the basis of international standards and in accordance with the EU regulatory framework.

German and Indian accreditation body plan cooperation

Talks in Berlin

At the end of September, Dr. Stephan Finke, Managing Director of the German accreditation body DAkkS, welcomed Anil Jauhri, CEO of the Indian accreditation body NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies), to talks in Berlin. The focus of the talks was on future cooperation in the area of accreditation.

Dr. Stephan Finke is new Managing Director of DAkkS

Succeeding Norbert Barz

With effect from 1 September 2016, Dr. Stephan Finke is new Managing Director of the German accreditation body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS). He succeeds Norbert Barz, who in the autumn will be handing over the role to his successor and leaving the company on grounds of age at the end of 2016 after seven years in the position. Holding a doctorate in industrial engineering, Finke most recently served as Business Development Manager at ABB Switzerland.

DAkkS adjusts its requirements regarding the metrological traceability policy

Requirement of the European Cooperation for Accreditation

The so-called „metrological traceability” is one of the pillars of conformity assessment. The German national accreditation body (DAkkS) has adjusted its requirements regarding the metrological traceability policy in order to meet the requirement of the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA). As of August 2016 the acceptance of verification reports issued by German verification authorities (“Eichbehörden”) as evidence of metrological traceability will only be possible in individual cases.

Simplified fee structure for non-EU conformity assessment bodies

Taking into account the increased effort and complexity of accreditation

Since 1 January 2016 DAkkS applies a new fee schedule for the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies abroad falling outside the scope of EU Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008.

DAkkS resumes accreditation in Iran in the course of the reduction of economic sanctions

DAkkS had suspended all activities in Iran in 2012

DAkkS perspectively intends to resume its accreditation activities in Iran. The German accreditation body is thus responding to the positive political developments surrounding the controversy about the country's nuclear programme. With the coming into force of the easing of economic sanctions foreseen in the agreement of 14 July 2015 in Vienna ("Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action") the accreditation of Iranian bodies is expected to become possible again.

Risk-oriented surveillance - Accreditation bodies cooperate internationally for organic integrity

According to ISO/IEC 17065

From 20th to 21st May 2015, the third international training for assessors of Organic Production according to ISO/IEC 17065 takes place in Berlin, organized by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). Its aim is to achieve an effective, risk-oriented surveillance of control bodies and the overall harmonization of international accreditation of certification bodies active in organic production.

DAkkS successfully evaluated by EA

Evaluation process by the European co-operation for Accreditation

DAkkS has successfully undergone the evaluation process by the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA). The EA team visited the Berlin offices of DAkkS from 12-19 September and also participated in fifteen assessments performed by DAkkS at conformity assessment bodies throughout Germany. Overall, the evaluators rated the assessment work performed by DAkkS as good.
