Internal Security | Defence | Explosives Technical unit 4.5 at a glance

Focus of the technical unit

This technical unit handles cases of accreditation for conformity assessment bodies operating in the areas of internal security, defence and explosives. This includes the accreditation of testing laboratories in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, certification bodies for products, processes and services in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 and inspection bodies in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020.

The conformity assessments reviewed in these cases of accreditation relate for example to the areas of firearms tests by proof houses within their area of responsibility or the analysis of propellant charges.

In addition, conformity assessment bodies are accredited for designation in accordance with Section 5e (3) SprengG (German Explosives Act). Explosives and pyrotechnic articles may be made available on the market only if the manufacturer has provided proof of conformity and they bear the CE marking. Proof of conformity is provided by means of a declaration of conformity confirming that conformity has been verified based on unit verification or that the type meets the essential requirements. These are set out for explosives in Annex II to Directive 2014/28/EU and for pyrotechnic articles in Annex I to Directive 2013/29/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 June 2013 on the harmonisation of the laws of the Member States relating to the making available on the market of pyrotechnic articles. In addition, replica explosives and pyrotechnic articles must conform to the types.
