Immission Control | Radiation Protection Technical unit 4.4 at a glance

Focus of the technical unit

The subject of accreditation by this technical unit is the determination of airborne pollutants as well as noise and vibrations in emissions and immissions, particularly within the framework of the Fed-eral Immission Control Act and the European Directive on equipment for use outdoors. The unit also handles accreditations for analysis of pollutants, noise and vibrations at the workplace and in-doors.

For the performance of measurements – sampling and analysis – these confirmations of compe-tence are based on DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. In special sub-areas, accreditations as proficiency testing providers in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043, certification bodies for products, processes and services on the basis of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 and inspection bodies in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 are also relevant.

Basic regulatory requirements in the area

The following regulatory requirements for conformity assessments are relevant for the cases of accreditation carried out by the technical unit:

  • 41nd Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV)
  • 32nd Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV) – Equipment and Machinery Protection Ordinance in conjunction with Sections 9, 12 (2) number 2 ProdSG (German Product Safety Act)
  • Measurements of hazardous substances at the workplace in accordance with the Hazardous Substances Ordinance (GefStoffV)

The majority of the cases of accreditation handled by the technical unit are carried out in consulta-tion with ZLS, the Central Authority of the Federal States for Safety Engineering, or constitute the basis for notification at European level or under German state law.

In addition to these regulatory requirements, the “Specialist customer certificate for determination in the area of immission control” / “LAI specialist module for immission control” must also be taken into account for accreditation.
