Focus of the technical unit

This technical unit covers a wide range of activities relevant to accreditation and relating to the characterisation, use and protection of water as the basis of life.

The unit’s activities relate to a broad range of the most diverse waters, such as:

  • Drinking water
  • Groundwater
  • Surface waters
  • Swimming pool and bathing pool water
  • Bathing waters
  • Waste water
  • industrial water
  • Process waters
  • Highly purified waters
  • Water from dental units
  • Mineral and bottled water
  • Spa waters
  • Trough water

The technical unit carries out accreditations of conformity assessment activities on the basis of private or statutory requirements. Testing laboratories are accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025. The statutory requirements are defined mainly by the German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV) and the 42nd ordinance implementing the Federal Immission Control Act (42nd BImSchV). The unit also accredits testing laboratories in accordance with the specialist module for water and inspection bodies in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020. In addition, accreditations of proficiency testing providers in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043, reference material producers in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17034 and certification bodies for products, processes and services in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065 are also possible.

With these accreditations, conformity assessment bodies can obtain the notification sometimes required from the competent state authorities allowing them to offer their testing and analysis.
