Focus of the technical unit

This technical unit accredits testing laboratories in accordance with the standard DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, inspection bodies on the basis of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020, proficiency testing providers in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043.

The unit’s accreditation conformity assessment activities are based on private or statutory requirements. For example, official laboratories must be accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 882/2004 and Regulation (EU) No 2017/625. For all other laboratories, accreditation is independent of regulatory requirements.

The technical unit is divided into the following areas:

Health-related consumer protection

This includes protection against health risks posed by foodstuffs, animal feedstuffs, comodities, tobacco products, cosmetics, animal by-products, and much more, as well as protection against misleading information relating to these product groups.

Plant health and protection

This area deals with the monitoring, prevention, and control of the occurrence and spread of plant pests and invasive plant species in order to protect agricultural crops, ornamental plants, nurseries, and public green spaces.

Veterinary medicine

This covers the health and diseases of animals, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as the protection of animal life and welfare and the prevention of suffering.
