Focus of the technical unit

This technical unit handles accreditations for certification bodies for products, processes and services (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065) and for management systems (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17021-1). The spectrum also includes the accreditation of inspection bodies (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020).

Food and agriculture

The area of food and agriculture includes on the one hand the accreditation of legally defined certifications such as organic production pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 2018/848 and the protection of regional designations of origin pursuant to Regulation (EU) No 1151/2012, and on the other the accreditation of schemes on the basis of DIN EN ISO 22000 for the certification of food safety management systems as well as private certification schemes for foodstuffs, feedstuffs and commodities. These include among others IFS, BRC GS, FSSC, GLOBALG.A.P, GMP+, MSC, RSPO. In addition, accreditations of German regional certification schemes such as “Qualitätszeichen Baden-Württemberg” or “Geprüfte Qualität Bayern” are also covered here.

Forestry and wood

The area of forestry and wood includes the accreditation of sustainable forestry and wood certifications such as the various national PEFC forest management systems and the international PEFC chain of custody programme, the FSC and the specialist module for native woods of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).

Textile and clothing industry

The textile and clothing industry area includes accreditation of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Textile Exchange certification schemes and the Green Button consumer label.

The technical unit also accredits the certification bodies’ own monitoring programmes in the relevant areas.
