Electrical Engineering | Telecommunication | EMC | Active Medical Devices Technical unit 2.2 at a glance

Focus of the technical unit

At present, this technical unit accredits testing laboratories (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025), certification bodies that certify products, processes and services (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065) and inspection bodies (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020).

Electrical engineering

The unit deals with the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies active in the area of electrotechnical products and their physical phenomena.

EMC

In the area of testing for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), the bodies accredited are for the most part testing laboratories. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) means the absence of influences on other devices and equipment that lead to unintentional or intentional malfunctions of electrical or electronic equipment, for example due to electrical, magnetic or electromagnetic fields and processes.

Active medical devices

In the area of medical devices, the unit mainly accredits testing laboratories and certification bodies. The term active medical devices refers for example to devices, objects, substances and also software used for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes for humans, whereby in contrast to medicinal products, the intended main effect is not primarily pharmacological, metabolic or immunological, but in most cases rather physical or physico-chemical.
