Focus of the technical unit
In the areas of transport, logistics, new mobility and fuels, this technical unit accredits testing laboratories in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, inspection bodies in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 and certification bodies for products, processes and services that carry out conformity assessment activities on the basis of private or statutory requirements in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065.
Accreditations of certification bodies for management systems in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17021-1 are also managed, for example in the aviation industry.
Cooperation with notifying bodies
In the area of transport, the safety of people and the environment has the highest priority. This is reflected in the national and international approval processes and surveillance activities. In terms of accreditation, cooperation between the national accreditation authority (DAkkS) and notifying bodies is important.
An example is accreditation in the area of transportable pressure equipment (TPED), which is done in close cooperation with the notifying body ZLS, the Central Authority of the Federal States for Safety Engineering. In the area of aviation, DAkkS coordinates closely with the Federal Aviation Office. In the area of transport, the Federal Logistics and Mobility Office (BALM) is available as a contact.
Other areas
In addition to the areas set out above and in line with the main focus of its work, the technical unit provides support with innovative issues, for example in the area of renewable fuels such as power-to-liquid (PTL) and hydrogen or intelligent transport systems and their services.
In the logistics sector, for example, pre-shipment inspections are also assessed. In the rail transport sector, for example, the requirements for a safe and technically compatible (interoperable) European railway system (TSI) are accredited.
