Dimensional and Electrical Quantities | High Frequency and Radiation Quantities Technical unit 1.1 at a glance

Focus of the technical unit

The work of this technical unit focuses on the accreditation in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 of laboratories offering calibration in the areas of dimensional and electrical quantities, high-frequency quantities and radiation quantities.

Dimensional quantities

In the area of dimensional quantities, the unit accredits both calibration laboratories and a large number of testing laboratories.

The range of subject areas covered by the individual accredited laboratories is broad. For example, accreditation in the area of dimensional quantities ranges from laboratories for the calibration of traditional hand-held measuring devices such as tape measures and calliper gauges to laboratories for the calibration of measuring objects using virtual coordinate measuring equipment.

Electrical and high-frequency quantities

The range of subjects covered by accredited laboratories in the area of electrical quantities is also broad. From the provision of metrological traceability of electrical voltage using quantum standards to the calibration of high-voltage sources and measuring instruments, the bodies accredited in this area offer a wide range of services. In the area of high-frequency measurement technology, other applications covered include the meteorological traceability of network analysers and antenna measurement technology.

Radiation quantities

In addition to the accreditation of laboratories for the calibration of photometers and radiometers, the area of radiation quantities covers altogether different fields such as laboratories for the calibration of radioactive sources and the calibration of reference solar cells.

Other accreditation activities undertaken by the technical unit

In addition to testing and calibration laboratories, the unit also accredits proficiency testing providers in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17043 and reference material producers in accordance with DIN EN ISO 17034 for the quantities set out above.
