Dimensional Quantities Department at a glance

Structure of the department

The “Dimensional Quantities” department comprises the subject fields “Length”, “Angle”, “Coordinate metrology” and “Industrial metrology”.

Accreditations and conformity assessment bodies

This subject area provides support with cases for calibration and testing laboratories on the basis of DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and cooperates with technical assessors from the National Metrology Institute of Germany and the private sector.

The “Length” subject field deals in the main with test equipment monitoring in the range from a few nanometres to about 20 metres. Transfer of the unit ‘metre’ is an important aspect when working for example with gauge blocks and gauges. The “Angle” subject field focuses on angle standards in the range from hundredths of arcseconds to a few micrometres. The focus of the “Coordinate metrology” subject field is on client acceptance of coordinate measuring instruments, the calibration of standards up to virtual coordinate measuring instruments. The “Industrial metrology” subject field covers the accreditation of testing laboratories for tests involving coordinate measuring instruments.

Benefits of accreditation

These accreditations confirm competence in the implementation of calibrations and tests in the areas set out above.
