IEC world congress of electrotechnical standardisation started – DAkkS is participating
With more than 3,500 guests from 71 countries, the 80th IEC General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) started on Monday. The participants in the IEC world congress are coming together from 10 to 14 October 2016 in Frankfurt am Main to deliberate on important decisions for electrotechnical standardisation. The National German Accreditation Body DAkkS is supporting the event.
Headquartered in Geneva, the IEC is the international standardisation organisation for standards in the fields of electrical engineering and electronics. 98 percent of world trade in electrical and electronic products is based on IEC standards. In its various bodies, the organisation brings together more than 20,000 experts from all over the world. Together with the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO), the IEC also develops a large proportion of the standards that form the worldwide basis for the accreditation of conformity assessment bodies – particularly with the so-called 17000 series.
The need for standardisation is particularly high in important innovative areas of interest such as Industry 4.0, renewable energy, IT security or electric mobility. These and other topics will play an important role at the IEC General Meeting. Also on the agenda at the standardisation summit are strategic aspects such as the influence of digitisation on future cooperation between experts around the world.
DAkkS participating in the "Reinvention Laboratory"
With innovative event formats such as the "Reinvention Laboratory", the organisers are looking to make standardisation more transparent and participatory. The goal is to create a new environment for the exchange of ideas, discussion and networking, as well as for interesting debate between generations and experts from various countries.
DAkkS is among those contributing to the "Reinvention Laboratory". In the forum "The trinity of standardization", DAkkS department head Ralf Egner and other panel members will discuss the key components of effective systems of product safety.
