In Germany, accreditation is a prerequisite for notification in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 305/2011. This applies to testing laboratories and certification bodies for products and certification bodies for factory production control.

This area also covers bodies involved in third-party testing for the installation of mineral building materials or plastic components in landfill sealing systems in accordance with the German Landfill Ordinance (DepV). These bodies require accreditation as an inspection body in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 and as a testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065.
