Accreditations and conformity assessment bodies

The subject field “Aviation” deals in particular with the accreditation of bodies that test or inspect the airworthiness of air sports equipment with a vehicle weight of up to 120 kilograms (such as paragliders or hang-gliders). Accreditations in this area are granted as an inspection body in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 or as a testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The subject field “Shipping” deals with bodies that certify marine equipment (such as rescue equipment, fire protection equipment etc.) and recreational craft or generally carry out tests in the area of maritime technology (such as strength of maritime structures, hydrostatic behaviour of hulls etc.). Accreditations are granted as a testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 and as a certification body for products, processes and services in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065.

Benefits of accreditation

These accreditations certify competence in conformity assessment in these areas. In addition, accreditation serves as the basis for notification as a notified body in accordance with the Directive on recreational craft (Directive 2013/53/EU) or the Directive on marine equipment (Directive 2014/90/EU) and as a technical service in accordance with the German Inland Water Vessel Inspection Regulations (BinSchUO), and also as a basis for work as an inspection or testing body in accordance with Section 11 of the German Ordinance on Aircraft and Aeronautical Products (LuftGerPV).
